My math class is really depressing me. It's really hard to put as much time and effort into something as I have been with my math class and still get such horrible grades. And it's even harder to sit there for the rest of the class period after finding out how bad you did on your math test and try not to cry. And then when you go to see a math tutor to look over your exam and help you figure out which problems you could agrue for more points on and have him tell you that he agrees with most of the grading, and for the problem that you got 3/16 on, have him tell you that what you did was not logical, that kind of makes it worse. :( PS: They changed the course requirements for a math minor in the College of Ed, and now Linear Algebra (my current hatred) and Calc 3 (last semester's hatred) are not on the list anymore. So if I would have started all this like a year later, I wouldn't have had to do any of this.

If Alex and I have a kid, would it be mean or cool to name her Holly so her name is Holly Woods? I vote cool, but Alex thinks it would be mean. Opinions please. Tue, Feb. 27th, 2007, 10:02 pm
My roommate Jen transferred to Eastern a few weeks into this semester, and we finally found a subleaser! His name is Brian and he is moving in this weekend. I am excited. Thu, Jan. 25th, 2007, 11:02 pm Roommates
Is it bad if 4 of my past roommates have left the university, 1 of them my other two roommates and I sort of kicked out, 2 shared a mutual hatred with me by the end of the semester, 1 ended awkwardly, and Alex is the only one I am still really doing okay with?
I would like to explain more about this, especially the most recent one to leave the university, but I don't have the time right now. Sat, Jan. 20th, 2007, 03:50 pm
Conversation I just had with Alex:
L: You know, I don't really want to be friends with ** but it may be good for you to be because he has Guitar Hero. A: No! I don't whore myself out to people I don't like for Guitar Hero! L: That's your first mistake. A: You're my fir... L: !!!
(Yes, I did really say exclamation point exclamation point exclamation point.) Tue, Jan. 9th, 2007, 07:51 pm
Last semester I was so busy all the time and now it is the beginning of the new semester and I have nothing to do! I know my schedule will fill up, but right now, I am so bored. I don't remember being this bored at the beginning of last semester. Sun, Dec. 17th, 2006, 09:52 pm
I am working at the North Pole at Laurel Park Mall. It's pretty fun. I am a little disappointed that I don't get to dress up as an elf though. Wed, Dec. 13th, 2006, 03:44 pm

I took out the last section because I wanted to kill time but not THAT much time, geez. So yeah, I guess this is my "I'm still alive" update. I am still alive, I am done with classes with the exception of a take-home final that I have to do tonight. I got a new job, more about that later. Life is good but I am about to go from being super busy constantly to doing absolutely nothing for a whole week. That will be really weird. Tue, Nov. 21st, 2006, 09:16 pm
MSU students are so dumb. I am sitting in the library and I just heard this girl say to this guy "We just took an hour long study break to drink 2 pitchers of beer before getting back to it." She thought it was pretty funny. Sun, Nov. 12th, 2006, 08:47 pm
So this morning when I woke up, I was laying on Alex's arm. I wouldn't have even noticed if he hadn't been really grumpy when demanding to have it back.. "Give me back my arm! I need my arm!" ...I waited for a few seconds to see if he was awake or not... and then said "Alex, do you know what just happened?" "I just wanted my arm! It's MINE!" Wed, Nov. 8th, 2006, 09:03 pm
I HATE GROUP WORK... especially when I have the worst partner EVER, who makes me do all the work because I get so frustrated by him being such an IDIOT! ...and then he tells me he is stoned.
Read this and notice how it takes an hour and a half for me to give him all the answers and for him to still not understand.
CasaNova588 (6:29:43 PM): hey LcYoNrSaEnY (6:30:15 PM): Hey CasaNova588 (6:30:20 PM): yoooo CasaNova588 (6:30:44 PM): so have u thought of a misconception or an actvity? LcYoNrSaEnY (6:31:35 PM): No, I haven't really thought about it at all yet. LcYoNrSaEnY (6:31:38 PM): Have you? CasaNova588 (6:32:19 PM): obviously not this assignment sucks LcYoNrSaEnY (6:32:38 PM): Okay, well, let LcYoNrSaEnY (6:32:49 PM): s work on the big ideas first CasaNova588 (6:33:00 PM): well the first two are perfect CasaNova588 (6:33:58 PM): what were they again? CasaNova588 (6:36:10 PM): ya there? LcYoNrSaEnY (6:36:11 PM): 1) There are two cetegories of simple machines, levers, which includes wedges and screws, and inclined planes, which includes pulleys and wheels and axles. 2) Force is needed to do work and the amount of force will decrease with distance. This is how simple machines make tasks easier. LcYoNrSaEnY (6:36:30 PM): But we are supposed to switch the order of those two. LcYoNrSaEnY (6:38:06 PM): The third one is: Motion can be affected by forces such as gravity and magnets. Force is required to change the direction or speed of motion of an object.
But we are supposed to say how this relates. CasaNova588 (6:39:10 PM): whats wrong with that? LcYoNrSaEnY (6:39:25 PM): It doesn't mention machines. CasaNova588 (6:39:39 PM): so u mean number 1 should be number 2 and vice versa? LcYoNrSaEnY (6:39:46 PM): Yeah. CasaNova588 (6:40:32 PM): ok CasaNova588 (6:40:38 PM): so how should we change number 3? LcYoNrSaEnY (6:41:55 PM): I am not sure. LcYoNrSaEnY (6:41:59 PM): What do you think? CasaNova588 (6:43:30 PM): hm. CasaNova588 (6:43:55 PM): i think i got it gimme a sec LcYoNrSaEnY (6:44:07 PM): Okay. CasaNova588 (6:44:37 PM): i think i gotta good misconception too LcYoNrSaEnY (6:44:49 PM): Cool. LcYoNrSaEnY (6:50:23 PM): Still there? CasaNova588 (6:50:34 PM): haha yea im sorry im trying to word it perfectly LcYoNrSaEnY (6:50:46 PM): Okay. CasaNova588 (6:56:46 PM): ...one more sec....gonna be unreal LcYoNrSaEnY (6:57:02 PM): Okay. LcYoNrSaEnY (7:07:28 PM): Got anything yet? CasaNova588 (7:07:39 PM): yea im almost done with everything CasaNova588 (7:07:50 PM): like the activity, misconception and changed number 3 LcYoNrSaEnY (7:08:19 PM): What do you have so far? CasaNova588 (7:09:05 PM): 3) Force is required to change the direction, speed, or motion of an object. Force also needs to be applied to simple machines in order for them to function and perform these tasks.
Misconception: If a force is applied to an object, it will stop moving eventually.
LcYoNrSaEnY (7:12:06 PM): We can make that less wordy by saying: Simple machines change the direction or distance that the force is applied with. CasaNova588 (7:12:32 PM): that works LcYoNrSaEnY (7:12:36 PM): Can you explain the misconception to me? CasaNova588 (7:12:41 PM): i just ran downstairs sorry CasaNova588 (7:13:19 PM): i actually just realized i started to think the topic was force and not simple machines LcYoNrSaEnY (7:13:33 PM): haha CasaNova588 (7:13:55 PM): ok new misconception and activity haah CasaNova588 (7:14:23 PM): how about the misconception is that simple machines make tasks easier LcYoNrSaEnY (7:14:39 PM): That's not a misconception though. LcYoNrSaEnY (7:14:47 PM): That is the point of simple machines. CasaNova588 (7:15:48 PM): hold on.....and the correct answer is that force is required for the simple machines to carry out these tasks and make them easier CasaNova588 (7:16:44 PM): eh eh? LcYoNrSaEnY (7:17:34 PM): Well you said that it's a misconception that they make tasks easier. LcYoNrSaEnY (7:17:50 PM): But then in your answer you said that force is required, for the machines to make tasks easier. LcYoNrSaEnY (7:17:54 PM): So they don't really contradict. CasaNova588 (7:19:14 PM): yea ur right...n e ideas? LcYoNrSaEnY (7:21:31 PM): I think our misconception should be about simple machines making the task less work. It is the same amount of work, but it is less force (what you do) over a greater distance (since work= forcexdistance) CasaNova588 (7:22:18 PM): i see what u mean CasaNova588 (7:22:20 PM): thats good CasaNova588 (7:22:30 PM): that would be an easy expirement too LcYoNrSaEnY (7:24:13 PM): Got any ideas? CasaNova588 (7:24:45 PM): yea
Auto response from LcYoNrSaEnY (7:24:45 PM): If you're looking for Mark, you're not doing a very good job.
LcYoNrSaEnY (7:25:20 PM): Like what? CasaNova588 (7:25:37 PM): you could setup a pulley in ur classroom CasaNova588 (7:25:57 PM): connected to one of those cement paint cans CasaNova588 (7:26:00 PM): or anything heavy LcYoNrSaEnY (7:26:58 PM): Do we have to do the experiment in our presentation? CasaNova588 (7:27:31 PM): no i doubt it......but ya then ask the kids to use the machine and evaluate whether using the machine to lift the can or lifting it on ur own requires more work CasaNova588 (7:28:28 PM): then show data to prove that using the machine just makes lifting it easier...and doesn't actually mean ur doing less work CasaNova588 (7:28:51 PM): through that formula LcYoNrSaEnY (7:31:34 PM): We do have to do the activity in our presentation. CasaNova588 (7:31:58 PM): so well say we did it CasaNova588 (7:32:23 PM): she wotn question it and if she does well be like fuck u we did.... CasaNova588 (7:32:28 PM): ive never done the expirement LcYoNrSaEnY (7:33:55 PM): No, we have to do it in our presentation... like for the class. CasaNova588 (7:35:03 PM): so how is someone gonna explain like glaciers and tides in class? LcYoNrSaEnY (7:35:42 PM): With an experiment. CasaNova588 (7:36:34 PM): aright well in that case i dont really have any ideas then CasaNova588 (7:39:54 PM): what do u think>? LcYoNrSaEnY (7:40:19 PM): I think we should use an inclined plane. CasaNova588 (7:40:35 PM): perfecccct CasaNova588 (7:40:49 PM): because it would be easy to measure the distances LcYoNrSaEnY (7:40:54 PM): Yeah. CasaNova588 (7:40:55 PM): and calculate CasaNova588 (7:41:32 PM): i even think i have a small toy replica of a porsche at home we could use LcYoNrSaEnY (7:42:07 PM): It has wheels so that is why it would make it easier. LcYoNrSaEnY (7:42:21 PM): or one of the reasons it would make it easier LcYoNrSaEnY (7:42:30 PM): That would test wheels and inclined planes. CasaNova588 (7:42:47 PM): what are u proving that the inclined plane itself makes easier? LcYoNrSaEnY (7:44:48 PM): We need a heavy box... you lift it onto a table. You know how heavy it feels and therefore have a general idea of how much force you are exterting. Then we prop a board against the table and you push the box up the board. You are using less force but a greater distance. They are both the same amount of work, but one is more force. CasaNova588 (7:46:12 PM): that explains it perfectly CasaNova588 (7:46:21 PM): im sorry im just high right now and i cant get my thoughts straight haha CasaNova588 (7:47:56 PM): it doesnt even need to be as large sclae as that CasaNova588 (7:48:13 PM): we can weigh like a block on one of those triple beam scales CasaNova588 (7:48:57 PM): and put like a folder going off the edge of a binder CasaNova588 (7:49:05 PM): and use a ruler to measure distnace CasaNova588 (7:52:49 PM): but what would we have to measure speed and force CasaNova588 (7:53:37 PM): whered ya go? LcYoNrSaEnY (7:53:51 PM): None of that makes sense. CasaNova588 (7:54:04 PM): none of what makes sense? LcYoNrSaEnY (7:54:32 PM): That wouldn't demonstrate the right thing. CasaNova588 (7:54:55 PM): u replace a board and a box with a block....so we dont have to lug a board and a box into class CasaNova588 (7:55:06 PM): whoops CasaNova588 (7:55:09 PM): i mean a board with a binder CasaNova588 (7:55:12 PM): and a box with a bock CasaNova588 (7:55:13 PM): block LcYoNrSaEnY (7:57:12 PM): Okay, I am going to go eat dinner. I am going to work on writing this up on my own and you should probably do the same. I think we should go with a box and a board because it is easier to demonstrate it. LcYoNrSaEnY (7:57:29 PM): See ya tomorrow. CasaNova588 (7:57:36 PM): but we need to have the same expirement LcYoNrSaEnY (7:57:53 PM): We have the experiment, we just need to write it up. CasaNova588 (7:58:24 PM): i feel like i have a different idea of how the exp. should go down CasaNova588 (7:58:41 PM): so can u just clarify how u think the expiremnt should be run LcYoNrSaEnY (7:59:36 PM): I explained it above, read that again. If you still don't understand, go with your idea and we will just have different experiments. LcYoNrSaEnY (8:00:03 PM): I have to go though. See you tomorrow. CasaNova588 (8:00:11 PM): seeya Wed, Nov. 1st, 2006, 11:08 pm
Does anyone know what is going on with the trains bordering campus tonight? Around 6 I was stopped at a train for at least 10 minutes while it stopped, backed up, and then moved again. Again at 930 I was stopped for 15 minutes while a train was stopped on the track. Tue, Oct. 24th, 2006, 10:14 pm
Today after my math class, I was walking next to my TA and he turned to me and asked "How was my lecture?" It was really awkward because I didn't want to lie and say "Oh man, it was great. Yeah, it cleared those triple integrals right up for me!" but I didn't want to be too honest and say "Well, it was pretty much as bad as usual. I had to fight sleep the whole time while the kid next to me was passed out on his desk. I have gradually understood your English less and less throughout the semester, and I never get anything out of your lectures." So, I went with an awkward "It was.. alright." I really like algebra but I HATE geometry. I think that is why I am sucking so much at math right now. I cannot look at an equation and know what shape it is. I have a hard time visualizing and trying to draw figures. I am probably still at like a 10th grade geometry level. I also don't like thinking about what a formula actually means. I am fine with doing hours of derivatives and partial derivatives and all that stuff that is just me with a formula. The second you ask me what it means, I cry. I also really wish that I could remember math better. I learn something and can hardly remember it by the next section. I think I am going to have to start studying things from the past two semesters of calc because I can't seem to remember trig substitutions. (PS- I don't really like trig either.)

Bad day part two:
On the pizza's way out of the oven, it was dropped, and landed face down on the baige carpet. (The carpet that is new this year and will cost us a lot of money if it gets messed up.) I ran, and I mean ran, across the street to QD to buy carpet cleaner. They didn't have any, so I bought Shout and we Shouted the hell out of that pizza. This morning I turned off my alarm and instead of getting out of bed, I decided to stay. I woke up at 9:30, which is the time the bus that will get me to my class on time comes. A short stream of profanity gracefully flowed out of my mouth. After that, I came to terms with the fact that I was going to be 15-20 minutes late to class on the day of my presentation. Luckily, my partner and I were going third, so I didn't miss too much. The girl who went before us was awesome. It made me wish that I knew the material for my presentation half as well as she knew hers. I think that the presentation went alright though.
PS: When I turned on my computer (which was hooked up to the screen) right before my presentation, first there was the fact that my background is a picture of Alex and I, and then I was reminded of the fact that when my computer is starting up, I get greeted with a notepad that says: "Hi Lynsey! I love you! -Alex" Everyone laughed, and I thought about how I should have started my computer before hooking it up to the screen. Wed, Sep. 20th, 2006, 01:08 am
Let me tell you about my day. I worked from 3-7 last night, slept from 730-11. I woke up and went to class which was alright. I got home around 330 and had to study for my first calc exam. I studied until I had to leave at 530. The wonderful Alex drove with me to class so that when there were no parking spots available, I wouldn't be late looking for one. I began my exam and was doing great until I got to the second half, where I blanked out and could not figure anything out. After staring blankly at my paper for a while, I was able to come up with a solution that I think was at least in the right direction. I got home and made spaghetti. Then I had to go to this girl, Erica's house to work on the presentation we are doing tomorrow. We were pretty much smooth sailing on it, but it still took us about three hours to do. When we finally finished it, I went outside and found out that my car was blocked in her driveway. I called her and she got the keys to the car that was blocking me, and I tried to start up my car. It didn't work. I tried again. No luck. I sat there for a few minutes trying to start it, playing with the alarm switch, and I was unsuccessful. I went to the end of the driveway where Erica was waiting in the car that she had to move and told her that my car wouldn't start. I tried a few more times, and then I called the wonderful Alex and asked him to pick me up. Erica and I went back inside her house and waited for the wonderful Alex to arrive. She decided to take a shower before I left, and Alex showed up when she was in the shower. Alex parked in the street, which is not only a no parking anytime place, but also happens to be right next to the police station. Alex was able to get my car to start after a few tries, and I was mad that he could and I wasn't able to earlier. My car was still blocked in though. We went back in Erica's house and she was still in the shower, so we decided to still leave my car there until tomorrow because we didn't want to wait. We got back to Alex's car and he had a ticket.
Now we are making a frozen pizza (well, not so frozen anymore) because, well, LIFE IS FROZEN. Mon, Sep. 11th, 2006, 11:07 pm

I am sitting in a chair that can lean back slightly, but everytime I lean back in it, I think I am breaking the chair. It really sounds like I am. It is rough. My job is so hard. I have to sit here all night and try to not break the chair that I am sitting in because if I do, then I will have to either stand or go get another one, and neither of those options seem too appealing.
I will now explain to you the new guest ID policy that we are going to be trying out this year that everyone hates already even though we haven't started it yet. When a guest gets signed in, we have to keep their ID. We fill out a triplicate form with their info, give them one copy of it that they are supposed to hold on to for the rest of their stay, and then we put their ID, along with one of the other copies, in an envelope and seal it. When the guest wants to leave, they have to come back to us and give us their little piece of paper, and then we give them their ID back. Here is why everyone hates this: -It is more work for us. -No drunk person is going to be able to hold onto a stupid piece of paper for the whole night. -A lot of drunk people will leave the building with no recollection of ever giving us their ID. -People are not going to be okay with giving us their ID for more than forty-five seconds. -More people are going to want to avoid this process by going to the side doors, therefore increasing the number of people sneaking in, which is the opposite of what this new policy is supposed to do.
The system is not all bad. The biggest problem that I can see with it so far is that since everyone who is in charge of anything at MSU sucks, they are most likely not going to have the supplies necessary to start in by Wednesday, which is when the freshmen move in. If they go a week or two without having to do it, and then suddenly we start it, no one will go for it. The only way to get it to work is to start it from the get-go, so all the newbs will not know any different.
I am trying to think of something more interesting to write about. I am not really coming up with anything, but I am trying. Let's rain check it. Sat, Aug. 19th, 2006, 07:01 pm
